Graph Color Bars
The interactive color bar graph tool offers a great way to model addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions. The graph color bars may also be used as an interactive tape diagram tool. Additionally, you may use the bar graph tool to show data.
To use the online graph color bar tool, drag bars onto the graph paper. Remove bars by dragging them off the screen.
Here are some possible ways to use the interactive bar graph tool in your classroom:
- Ask students to drag the ten bar onto the graph paper. Then, ask students to show as many combinations to form ten as possible below.
- Ask students to represent an addition or subtraction problem using the bars. For example, they can show 2 + 6 = 8 by dragging the two and the six onto the screen side by side. Then, they can place the 8 above it.
- Ask students to represent a multiplication or division problem using the bars. For example, students can show 3 x 3 = 9 or 9 ÷ 3 = 3.
- Ask students to represent teen numbers using the bars.
- Ask students to represent a fraction using the bars. For example, you might ask them to represent 1/4 or 1/2 of the number 4 using the bars.
- Show students a data set and ask them to represent it on the graph paper.
