Counter Flip

Counter Flip
Flip a counter. What color will it be, red or yellow?
The counter flipper makes it easy to flip one, two, or even ten counters at once. Flip randomly or manually select red or yellow for each side. Our virtual coin flipper gives real-life results without the hassle of noise or lost counters.
How to Use the Online Counter Flipper
Click, drag, and drop red and yellow counters onto the board. Add as many counters as you’d like. Select the flip tool to manually flip counters and choose a color. Use the hand tool to move the counters around in the space.
Ready for some action? Randomly toss all the counters on the board by clicking the “Flip Random” tool. To write notes, use the pencil and eraser tools. Start over by using the trashcan button to remove all the counters from the playing area.
Classroom Lessons Using the Online Counter Flipper
Teach probability, make predictions, and practice percentages and fractions with the counter flipper. Here are a few lessons to try:
-
Predictions: Ask students to randomly flip one counter ten times. Have students track flip outcomes using tally marks. This activity can help students understand probability.
As a variation, have students draw a line down the center of the playing area using the pencil tool. Then, put five counters on each side. Next, ask students to randomly flip all the coins ten times. Have students track flip outcomes for groups 1 and 2. Then, students can compare the outcomes.
-
Fractions: For this lesson, ask students to put several counters in the playing area. Then, randomly flip them. Ask students to express the outcome as a fraction of how many were red or yellow. For example, if students use four counters and two flip yellow, the fraction would be 2/4.
-
Graphing: The online counter-flipping tool can also inspire graphing. Ask students to graph outcomes of 10 flips of one counter using a bar graph or a pie chart.
Make learning about probability fun and engaging with this fun virtual tool. Use it as a math center, with small groups, or assign it as homework!
