About Edgar Degas
Edgar Degas (1834–1917) was a French artist celebrated for his paintings, drawings, and sculptures of dancers, musicians, and daily life. Though often associated with the Impressionists, Degas considered himself an independent, combining realistic observation with bold composition. He was close friends with Mary Cassatt and was deeply inspired by Japanese printmakers such as Katsushika Hokusai.
