About Henri Matisse
Henri Matisse (1869–1954) was a French painter, draftsman, and sculptor whose use of vibrant color transformed modern art. Originally trained as a lawyer, he became a leading figure of Fauvism—a movement known for expressive, non-naturalistic color. In his later years, Matisse created iconic paper cutouts, which he called “painting with scissors,” showing how simple shapes and bright colors can evoke movement, joy, and balance.
