Number Frames
Number Frames
Get ready to build, design, count, multiply, add, subtract, and more! The number frames offer unlimited fun and learning.
The number frames include 10 different frames, each with 1 to 10 dots. Drag and drop them onto the grid. Once on the grid, you can use the “Rotate” and “Flip” buttons to adjust them. You can remove number frames by dragging them off. Use the pencil and eraser tools to make notations. Clear the board with the trash can button.
The number frames are perfect for modeling addition problems. Simply ask students to model each addend using one or more number frames.
You can also use number frames to model subtraction problems. You can do this by stacking the subtrahend on top of the minuend.
Some other ideas for using the number frames include:
- Challenge students to create a picture such as an animal or house and then count how many dots it contains.
- Practice algebraic thinking, such as 7 + ? = 10. Students can model it using the number frames.
- Practice solving for perimeter or area using the number frames, using the dots as a reference.
