Magic Square Challenge
Can you make every line add up to the same number? Magic Square Challenge is a free online math puzzle that combines addition with logical thinking. Each puzzle features a new target sum and a few numbers already in place to help you get started.
How to Play
The number in the circle above the grid is your target. Drag the blue number tiles into the empty squares so that every row, every column, and both diagonals add up to that number. The green numbers stay in place. Rearrange your tiles as you work out the solution, then choose New Puzzle when you’re ready for another challenge.
Practice Addition and Problem Solving
Magic squares encourage children to look for patterns, work out missing numbers, and think about how each placement affects the rest of the grid. Players practice addition and subtraction while planning moves and testing ideas.
Use Magic Square Challenge for classroom math centers, interactive whiteboard lessons, early finishers, or a brain teaser at home. With changing targets and clues, there’s always another number puzzle to solve.
